The Murphy Institute has joined the Central Labor Council in its commitment to help immigrant workers and is collaborating on a project to provide free and confidential legal counseling on a regular basis. Thousands of immigrant workers in New York City unions will benefit from this joint CLC-CUNY project, which will be available to non-union members as well.
An immigration attorney will be available the first Thursday of every month at the Central Labor Council headquarters and the third Thursday of every month at the Murphy Institute between 4:30pm and 6:30pm. Workers can make an appointment at either of these sites for free legal advice and application assistance on a range of areas from naturalization, to family immigration, to asylum. In addition, workers will have access to free photos to submit with their immigration documents.
Funding for this project is provided by the City University of New York and the New York City Council. The CUNY Citizenship and Immigration Project will provide an attorney on site at the Central Labor Council and the Murphy Institute.
