Bachelor's Degree Programs

Murphy Institute students have the option of pursuing courses of study at our mid-Manhattan site or satellite locations at Queens College, College of Staten Island and at the New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn.  Programs with LaGuardia Community College in Queens and Lehman College in the Bronx will be available in 2008.

The B. A. in Urban Studies is awarded by Queens College. Students in the Urban Studies program may concentrate in Public Administration, Human Services or Labor Studies. Urban Studies is excellent preparation for careers in public service and the non-profit sector as well as in community organization and development, government, labor and social policy.

Accelerated LEAP Curriculum Leading to Bachelor's Degree

Murphy Institute students can choose from over 60 undergraduate programs at the Institute's Queens College location.  The most popular majors among our students are Urban Studies, Labor Studies, Education, and Sociology.

Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Studies
 
Urban Studies is excellent preparation for careers in public service and the non-profit sector as well as in community organization and development, government, labor, and social policy.


Bachelor's Degree in Labor Studies
The Labor Studies major prepares students for careers with labor unions as well as with non-profit organizations that advocate for such issues as immigrant rights, employment standards, and occupational health and safety.

Bachelor's in Education (Para to Teacher Program)
The Para to Teacher Program was specifically designed to provide paraprofessionals working in the New York City public schools with the course of study, college degree, and test preparation they need to become certified teachers at the Queens College campus.  Additionally, this program is also open to all students interested in teacher certification.

The College of Staten Island has over 50 undergraduate programs, and many undergraduates at CSI go on to pursue graduate degrees at the College.  CSI is the other location where the Para to Teacher Program can be pursued.

Bachelor's in Education (Para to Teacher Program) 
Modeled after our successful program at Queens College, the Para to Teacher Program provides paraprofessionals working in the New York City public schools with the course of study, college degree, and test preparation needed to become certified teachers at the College of Staten Island campus.  Additionally, this program is also open to all students interested in teacher certification.


New York City College of Technology

The Murphy Institute offers in collaboration with Local 94 specialized tehnical education in combination with liberal arts study for wokers in highly technical occupations and rapidly changing industries where advancement requires new skills and knowledge. citytech05SM.jpg

Associate's in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) is designed for members of Local 94 who have completed the union's apprenticeship program which carries with 15 college credits toward the degree. 

Bachelor of Science in Facilities Management

Students in the HVAC program who are interested in further education, can apply their credits toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Facilities Management.  This program provides the latest training as well as the credentials needed for  advancement in the field.
